I had no intention of watching any of the Michael Jackson stuff.  I didn’t know the guy personally, and I wasn’t a big fan of his music.  I didn’t hate it or anything, it just wasn’t my thing.  But during lunch, I flipped the TV on and it was on.  I switched the channel, it was on.  I checked a bunch of other channels, it was on.

Really?

Hey everyone…reality check… DUDE WAS A SINGER.

My good friend George pretty much summed up what I was thinking:

“I must have missed what branch of the military Michael Jackson served in? Or was it when he found a cure for something? Or maybe it was when he helped create world peace….no none of those! How stupid is all this MJ stuff. Very sad day when we don’t honor men and women who serve our country as much as we do a singer.”

Exactly.

If a soldier is killed in action serving his country, we barely hear about it.  If a cop is killed in the line of duty protecting the community, there might be a minute or two on the news about it.  If a fireman is killed trying to protect people’s homes, maybe an article in the paper.

But a singer dies, and we are subjected to non-stop coverage.  The Staples Center?  Really?  Why not a private service for his family and close friends, why the circus?  It was televised on almost every station, people went to movie theaters to watch.  This wasn’t the President of the United States, not the Pope, but a singer.

And why in the hell was there any taxpayer money involved?  Fucking ridiculous.
